Feb 9, 2016

LAS VEGAS — WGU Nevada is now accepting applications for its newest online master’s degree program, M.S. in Cybersecurity and Information Assurance. Developed in collaboration with industry and policy experts, the new program offers coursework that aligns with the latest standards from national security organizations, including the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the Department of Defense (DOD), and the National Security Agency (NSA).

The new program is designed for experienced information systems professionals or individuals with real-world IT experience who are seeking a master’s degree and planning to become certified in ethical hacking or computer forensic investigation. The program focuses on the knowledge and skills needed to tackle the complex security issues facing a global digital economy. The curriculum includes key subject areas such as risk management; cyberwarfare; cyberlaw, regulations, and compliance; security policies and standards; secure network design; secure software design; ethical hacking; forensics and network intrusion; and disaster recovery planning, prevention and responses. Students will complete the program online with individualized faculty support and guidance, with a final capstone project based on a real-world business problem.

Like all WGU Nevada programs, the Master’s in Cybersecurity and Information Assurance is competency-based. Ideal for busy information technology professionals, competency-based education allows students to study and learn on their own schedules and at their own pace. With one-to-one faculty support tailored to their individual needs, students complete courses and advance as soon as they can demonstrate mastery of subject matter. As a result, many students are able to accelerate their progress and complete their degrees faster, saving both time and money. WGU Nevada’s terms are six months long, and students may enroll on the first of any month, completing as many courses as they are able for a flat-rate tuition of about $3,000 per term.
